Can Equine Massage Therapy compliment Physiotherapy sessions?
I was recently asked if Equine Massage Therapy can compliment Physiotherapy sessions❓
The simple answer is of course YES‼️
However I thought it would be useful to explain a little bit more.......
Some people are often confused in the difference between a Vet Physiotherapist and an Equine Massage Therapist 🤔
▪️Physiotherapy▪️
🔺Physiotherapy is primarily used to rehabilitate your horse after an injury or illness
🔺Physiotherapists aim to restore full range of movement and to get your horse functioning as fully as possible using specific exercises and therapy
🔺Physiotherapists are more likely to focus on a specific area of your horse relating to an injury or lack of mobility and it’s rehab
🔺Physiotherapists do use some massage techniques as well as stretching and mobilisation techniques specific to the injury or issue
▪️Equine Massage▪️
🔻Equine Massage uses slightly different techniques and principles to physiotherapy, but the end goal is the same; to free your horse of pain and injury, amongst other things
🔻Equine Massage Therapy is a whole horse approach offering maintenance and pre-hab treatment to the entire body as well as addressing and treating specific areas of tension detected along the way
🔻Massage Therapy in between Physiotherapy treatments will help to keep your horse on the intended path and ensure everything is moving correctly and functioning as intended as well as helping to prevent any further injury or return of the issue that has been treated
🔻Equine massage treatments can also help your horse to relax mentally and physically between Physiotherapy treatments which is particularly helpful if they are recovering from an injury or operation
✔️ These two professions can compliment each other very well with massages helping to maintain the work of the Physio between sessions ✔️
